History: On June 1954, the USSR build the first nuclear powerplant in a place at 110 km southwest from Moscow. The Power plant prduced 5 megawatts of electrical power
How we get energy from the power source:
Quick explanation of process:
The generator uses Uranium as fuel to make water heat and became steam. The powerful heat is called nuclear fission. Neutrons smash in the nucleus of the uranium which produces strong heat. The steam, passes through turbines who create electrical power.
Inputs and or Resources required for the power: Uranium, water.
How the Resouces is transformed to produce electricity:
Cost of the inputs/resources:
Where the resource is from: Uranium can be found underground in the soil very deep down.
Impact of the resource extraction:
Affects of the power generation on the environment:
Outputs (pollution, waste, byproducts) from the power generation: It doesn't
Impact on animals or habitats
Impact on people
Cost of building the generator:
Construction cost from 1 to 5 billion dollars.
It is has a similar cost to coal, not so expansive
Time to build the generator:
Cost of the energy produced to consumers:
2000 euro/KW or 1500$/KW
Energy produced per power plant, per year:
The risks:
Risk of an accident, in a percentage
Result of a major accident
Result of a minor accident
Best location for the power plant:
Disadvantages:
Advantages:
It does not produce smoke or carbon dioxide.
Produce huge amount of energy for small amount of fuel.
